Unfortunately the dog-pile effect isn't gone completely. It's still possible that it can happen and RSSmeme will be slow. My tests show that things are getting better though and the site is currently up and running.

I read about MintCache when Daniel Ha implemented it with Disqus, and I thought it was a killer solution then, too. Great work.

.. of course, I do have to mention that RSSmeme seems to be down at the moment, though. So that's not a win.

Whenever you add one of these awesome new features, I want to slap my forehead. Why didn't I see that? So obvious in retrospect!

I think that actually raises you from a good developer to a brilliant one, Benjamin. You never lose sight of the small things that really make an application useful.

I hope to add more features to the customize tab soon. I'm still looking
into the best way to do it though (most likely some javascript autofill

I think you did the right thing being more safe than sorry. Obviously, some people are mis-interpreting the real aim and usefulness of RSSmeme, but that doesn't mean you can't get in trouble.

My opinion is, your service would be just as useful to me if you just had headlines on the site itself, as long as the RSS ranking magic happened on the back end, and I got the unadulterated feed articles in Google Reader.

I'm disappointed. One ignorant person who doesn't want free publicity is hurting a valuable service. Just like search, people can easily control how others see their feeds. Their lack of knowledge shouldn't be your fault. I hope full feeds can return, I always prefer them.

It is definitely a delicate topic these days, I hope some reasonable guidelines appear for these situations that everyone - services and content providers alike - can live with. Without them, I think both sides suffer - services are left with a lesser offering and content providers lose valuable publicity and distributiong.
